Paving Bricks

Since 1992, the Cologne artist Gunter Demnig has been placing paving bricks. These are small brass plates that are embedded in front of house entrances to remind us of the people who were pursued, expelled and murdered during the National Socialist era. Beginning in 2018, there are now such paving bricks also in Speyer. Abandon yourself to a search for these bricks and learn more about the background of the largest decentralized memorial in the world, with its more than 70,000 paving bricks in 21 European countries. On this tour, you will encounter a small selection of the current total of 54 paving bricks installed in Speyer. Members of the Paving Brick Initiative in Speyer will accompany you on this tour through the city in order to tell you about the lives and fates of the people after whom the bricks are named
