Can you still remember how heavenly that first glass of the Eichbaum Brewery′s festival beer tasted when accompanied by a pretzel from Speyer while the sweet smell of burnt almonds wafted over the fairgrounds? Or that fun feeling in your tummy as the carrousel sped you around and around? Do you remember the excitement of meeting old friends at the „Black-Forest House“ and your anticipation at biting into a crisply fried sausage, fresh from the grill?Then you are surely every bit as pleased as we at Speyer′s Tourist Office that the long wait for all these pleasures is finally over. Because on Friday, July 9, 2010, it will again be time. That is when the the 100th Speyer Pretzel Fair, the biggest folk festival on the Upper Rhine, will again be open for all to enjoy.
For five days until its close with a spectacular display of fireworks on Tuesday, July 13, 2010, there will be nothing but jubilation, joy and merriment on the fairgrounds around Speyer Cathedral. The most modern rides, entertainment, booths and stands will provide atmospheric flair. If speed is your thing, then you′ll get your money′s worth on rides like „Take Off“ and the chair-o-planes rides, „Star Flyer“ and „Wild Mouse“. If you prefer nostalgia, you can enjoy the leisurely undulations of the swing carrousel or ascend in the Ferris wheel to its 50-meter height for a fantastic view of the Cathedral and the city close by and the Rhine and the beautiful Palatinate in the distance. In addition to these current and classic rides and amusements, jovial beer gardens, a huge festival tent and daily live music on three stages will be waiting for you. And on Pretzel Fair Sunday, the traditional Pretzel Fair Run and afterwards, a Parade with about 100 entries will wind their way through the inner city.
